I had old cine films professionally transferred onto VHS, then later transferred the VHS to DVD myself by filming it from a TV screen. Not the best for quality, but all I had at the time. I could watch them on a TV screen, using s little DVD player, but it stopping working some years ago on both TV and computer.

I have the most treasured parts saved as multiple short MOV files and wondered if there was a way to combine them all again on an USB, or whatever, so that I can easily watch the entire lot on either my laptop, but especially a TV?

you havent said what model mac you have or operating system.. do you have access o iMove or any other movie editor. (there are a few Video editing programs that you can download that will let you have a short use free period.
have you tried using plain old quicktime or preview.? or would it load into iMovie...
can you re-save its a MPEG.. or other video formats.
I am almost deaf and download tons of youtube videos with subtitles on. so I can 'read' when the sound is bad. (generally all sound is bad to me).

Sorry, it’s a MacBook Pro (Nov 24) and the OS is Sequoia 15.5.

It has the iMovie app but I’ve never used it, and wouldn’t know where to start. Would this be the best place to start, and would it be relatively simple to combine the clips into one continuous film, but preferably with the option to lift any particular clip out of it when needed?

Hi, you should be able to open the file by simply drag and drop on the iMovie app. or open the app and then try and open the mov file. and there it can be edited... i may sound daunting, but we were all beginners once... it just takes practice.
if you still have the original film, there are actual digitising machines and even services to convert film into digital files with very good results.
and as for learning, search on youtube for videos of such procedures or educational videos on using iMovie.
and last of all this forum...
I download loads of youtube videos so i can watch the vids with subtitles on my TV using usb sticks. check the back of your TV to see if it has a USB port.. if it does not, do you have a vdv player.. most of them now have USB ports.
do you wish to combine all the videos intoone file or watch each of them seperatly.?

Thanks Sandy for all your advice. I guess I’ll have to have a play around with iMovie and see if I can achieve what I want.

Unfortunately, I have neither the original cine film nor the video tape I had done professionally from the cine reels. The clips I have are the ones I filmed from the video tape as it was playing on the TV screen.

I’ll also ensure that the USB stick I will probably have to buy is in the format you mention.

Thanks again for all your help.

Hi, all USB stick (un less marked) are almost always ready formatted as ExFat IBM. but if you have mac formatted ones, its is simple to do using "Disk Utility", found in the applications folder. just use the erase menu and you get the dialog box below, and select ExFat.

need any help or get lost, just ask. always ready to help...

If that's all you want to do, without any editing, you do it simply with Quicktime.

Open the first clip with QT, and then just drag and drop the other clips into the player window. Just keep the clips in Finder incase you need them again.
