ram waste of money

i just recently bought an i mac, and bought it with 2 giggs of ram. now im told in order to upgrade to 4 giggs those 2 giggs are garbage.theres only 2 slots. i have to spend almost a thousand dollars. i thought since i already have 2 giggs i would only need 2 more. what the hell is going on here, it seems i just got screwed and theres nothing i can do about it.

What's wrong with just sticking with the two gigs of RAM? That's plenty.
