RAM & Memory Problems

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro with 4GB memory and 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 processor. I do a lot of photo editing and Photoshop Elements 12 Editor keeps seizing up and crashing on me. I know Photoshop uses a ton of RAM, and I've done my best to play with the settings to try to combat these problems. So here is the question: should I attempt to upgrade my memory, or should I wait and buy an iMac that has considerably more memory?

Also, are there any programs that I could possibly get rid of? I'm at 3.64 GB being used up. I've attached a screenshot for you to look at.
