Hi all,

Any help or suggestions with this issue would be much appreciated.

This could take some explaining, so please bare with me.

My Mac - 1.3 GHz PowerPC G4 - Build 9C31 - OS X 10.5.2

I first discovered I had a ram problem as my mac was crashing, so I googled the error and it suggested RAM issues. I then noticed my 2Gb of RAM was showing as 1.5Gb in System Profiler.

I used 3 different sticks of RAM to try and figure out the problem, they are as follows:

Stick A - 1Gb Kingston DDR pc2700
Stick B - 1Gb Kingston DDR pc2700
Stick C - 256Mb Samsung DDR pc2700

Depending on what stick I have in what slot, I get varied results in my System Profiler telling me what RAM I have. These are my results:

Lower: Stick A Upper: Stick B = (in system profiler) Lower empty, Upper 1Gb
Lower: Stick B Upper: Stick A = (in system profiler) Lower 512Mb, Upper 1Gb
Lower: Stick A Upper: Stick C = (in system profiler) Lower empty, Upper 256Mb
Lower: Stick C Upper: Stick A = (in system profiler) Lower empty, Upper 1Gb
Lower: Stick B Upper: Stick C = (in system profiler) Lower empty, Upper 256Mb
Lower: Stick C Upper: Stick B = (in system profiler) Lower 128Mb, Upper 1Gb

Each of the sticks seem to work fine on their own in both the Upper and Lower slots. I only get problems when I mix them.

So my question is: Where is the problem here? I'm hoping this is just a RAM problem but get the feeling it could be more serious looking at the results.

Hopefully this makes some kind of sense, but if not I can answer any questions as best I can.

Thanks,

Mike

If no one has any suggestions to what the problem may be, can some one suggest where I might get some answers?

Cheers,

Mike
