I'm a PC guy trying to help a MAC friend.

She was frustrated trying to attach 2 pdf documents to an email. One appeared as an open pdf, the other as an icon. When all else failed, I read the directions. One page pdf files are viewed in place, all others are viewed as icons. The CONTROL Click drop down menu allows you to change how it is viewed.

Am I correct in my understanding that how it is viewed is totally controlled by the recipient of the email, and that there is no way to send a one page pdf file so that when a mac recipient opens the message, it will be viewed as an icon?

Also, I don't understand the point in the recipient have the option to view in place or view as an icon. If you receive an email with a pdf file viewed in place, what reason would you have to change it to view as an icon?

Is it possible that I am wrong, and the view in place or view as icon option is an option controlled by the sender of the email, and determines how the recipient will see the email?

Hello and welcome.

I believe you are correct - one page PDFs display inline, multiple page PDFs show as an icon. You can change the settings to only show icons, as outlined in the link below: Control-click or right-click on the PDF and choose View as Icon. It is controlled by the recipient, not the sender.

How To… Change The Way PDFs Are Shown In Apple Mail

Normally, PCs won't show PDFs inline, only as attachments.

Let us know if that helps,
