I can no longer print.

On iMac 2020 Big Sur 11.5.2 when I instruct it to print from Pages (or any other application) to Canon Pixma MX 395 I get a Printer window: [Pages symbol] Print “Error while printing OK”. Behind this Error window is another window: “Print Preparing…[horizontal bar, darker section sliding to & fro ‘cancel’”. When OK pressed in the ‘Error’ window, both windows disappear.

I’ve downloaded and reinstalled the Canon Printer Driver, although the only one available for Big Sur is Pixma MX 390 series. The only Pixma MX 395 driver is for Catalina: “Your operating system macOS 10.15 (Catalina) Operating system detected” That download is identical to the one for Big Sur.

This error only started after I’d been upgraded to 11.5.2.

Any idea what’s going on?

Hi,

Have you updated to macOS 11.6 Big Sur yet...maybe that will resolve it?

You could try resetting the printing system, then re-add the Canon:
  • Open System Preferences... > Printers & Scanners
  • Right-click or Option-click in the white space in the left pane where the printers are listed
  • Click Reset printing system...
  • Re-add the Canon printer
