Mac slow and strange message always pops up

This message always keeps popping up.

it says " There was a problem connecting to the server. URLs with the file type "file."
are not supported."

what does it mean?

Please help!

There is an Application trying to go onto the internet and download a file. I suggest you look in Activity Monitor while that sheet is showing.

Adobe, Google, Microsoft Updaters are the most likely culprits.

I checked the activity monotor sa soon as I saw that message. I tool a screen shot. here it is

I'd start with FireFox, can you use another browser and see if it still does it?

The message pops up even when Firefox is not operating.

and you checked Activity Monitor again, without Firefox?

Sorry this is a process of elimination, Its probably a Launch demon, but trying to remove the obvious.

Check your Library > LaunchAgents folder what files are in there?
