hello my mac has been crashing for about a whole month now, while running a game called minecraft with a 1250 mb private server with only 4 people playing.

-i have a mac 10.6.8 (mini-mac)

-i have under half a gigabyte of memory taken up at the moment.

-i have been watching activity monitor to see if anything is making it slow down..my CPU goes up to about 75%

-the mac shuts itself off after playing for about 1 hour and gives no warnings, and does not slow down at all..just all-out shuts off.

please help
-thanks :)

Hello and welcome.

If the mini is totally powering off after playing for an hour, it sounds like it is overheating. Macs will power off if the internal temperature gets too high as a safety mechanism to protect itself.

-Which model of Mac mini? (processor, RAM, video card)
-Have you tried lowering the graphics settings in the game to see if it still occurs?

You can also get a Dashboard widget that lets you monitor all the heat sensors. I agree the 3D games can make the lower powered Macs shut off because of overheating.

It crashed once again, but this time a warning popped up when it crashed saying to turn the power off, and not just shutting itself down. when i re-logged it gave me this crash log:

C

Model Name: Mac mini
Model Identifier: Macmini2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 1.83 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 2 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Bus Speed: 667 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MM21.009A.B00
SMC Version (system): 1.19f2

I have also tried lowering the games memory to only 512 mb, and lowering the graphics settings to the bare minimum, It still acts exactly the same..

Are there any relevant messages in the Console Log?

Continuing to do this to the mini may permanently damage it!

no, although in the console i'm getting this message to repeat every 10 sec.:

8/15/12 5:51:01 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.506[180] (com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
8/15/12 5:51:31 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.506[180] (com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper[1292]) posix_spawn("/Applications/MacKeeper.app/Contents/Resources/MacKeeper Helper.app/Contents/MacOS/MacKeeper Helper", ...): No such file or directory

is that message normal with mac keeper? I had mac keeper for a while but deleted it...

No, I'd get rid if it totally! You'll need to hunt around to get all it's bits. I think there is a thread here somewhere on how to get rid of it.

i downloaded Islayer, and none of my temps are ever over 70 degrees, and on activity monitor it never would go up above 50% on my active, wired, and unactive RAM. from what I researched, thats not an overheating temp.

I also have been running with these settings for over 1 year playing the game exactly the same way, and I have NEVER had any problems until now. I don't see how it makes much sense for a OS to shut down without overheating, without RAM overload, and without even so much as a warning when it shuts off....it just doesn't make any sense...

Ok, this makes it a lot worse. I'd take it to an Apple Service Centre near you.
