Accessing CD reader on old mac mini

I want to read music CD's on my old mac mini (with Snow Leopard) directly onto my new mac mini with High Sierra. I got nowhere with Wifi. Connecting by ethernet cable lets the 2 computers recognise each other but I can't actually get them to link up apart from screen sharing and asking permission to use the remote disk. I don't think it's firewall or general permission to share files. I'm stumped. Any suggestions?

I have a late 2012 Mac Mini, but it does not have a DVD/CD drive (I have such an external drive, but I would need to connect it to my Mac Mini with the USB 3.0 cable). Does your "old" Mac Mini have a DVD/CD drive?

If you are trying to access the CD using CD/DVD Sharing, it doesn't work for audio CDs:

Connecting the two Macs using Target Disc Mode should work:
