mac mini crashes

I have a Mac Mini Intel (upgraded to 2 Ghz Ram from Crucial) running OS X. The RAM upgrade was done about 8 months ago. Recently, it has started crashing several times a day. Before it crashes it is preceded with loud popping noises (no pattern) and then the gray screen comes up saying I need to restart. I have run disk repair many times and that does not help. After the reboot I also can't see the reports of what happened. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
