Lost hard drive icon & folders

My screen is empty. Even the hard drive icon has gone. All that is here is the doc. Would anyone here know how I can get it all back?

Cory (or whoever in around tonight), I tried to re-boot, but it freezes. I can do the forum on here and email, but I can't do skype, or find any of my folders. (or hard drive icon)

I took a shot of a graphic to see what would happen. I could hear it, but cannot see it.
Strange.

if you can't re-boot just press down on the power button until it shuts down, this is a hard shut down & only to be used when all else fails. Any work you were doing at the time will be lost or at least the last saved version will be preserved.

Thanks Spawn, but I don't want to try to shut it off until I find my hard drive and files.

I tried it spawn, but it won't shut down as Firefox stays open. Firefox won't close even with forced option/command/esc

Problem solves. I just unplugged my computer, waited about 20 seconds, then plugged it back in, now everything seems fine. Thanks

Thanks Spawn . I'll keep your advice for a later date if I have trouble rebooting again. I am soon getting new ipad or tablet, so I won't have these problems much longer.
