Little Help With OS X

I'm new to OS X. Tonight when I turned my computer on all I got was a blank grey screen with a tiny file folder icon in the center. In the folder icon there is an alternating question mark and man's face split up the middle with what appears to be a lightning bolt. The computer will not boot. Anyone know what this is or how to fix it?

The blinking question mark means the computer can't find a system folder to boot from, the "lightning bolt" isn't anything to be afraid of though, it's the nose of the face.

How to fix it, on the other hand... that's beyond my current knowledge.

No I still haven't figured anything out. I'm in open firmware and can't get it to boot from the cd to re-install. Anyone have any ideas on it?
