I have ordered a new 24" iMac which is due to be delivered in the middle of next month. But there's a good chance I will still need my old 27" iMac for a while so that I can boot to Mojave to run a program that is due to be 64 bits "sometime this Spring".

I'm thinking that if this is the case, I will want to connect my backup to the new computer and migrate from there, and while I'm doing that go to my old computer go to "System Preferences/Sharing/Computer Name/Edit" and change its name.

I don't want two different computers with the same name on my network.

Are there any other concerns I should be aware of for this setup?

Hi,

I don't think it will transfer the name of the old iMac to the new via Migration Assistant. If it does, Time Machine will still see them as different computers, and you can change the name of the old one without affecting anything.
