iMac 10.2.8 upgrade to what?

I have a desktop iMac 10.2.8 with 256 MB and a 1 GHz PowerPC G4. I want to upgrade it so I can get better versions of Firefox, etc. I went to the Mac store at the Mall of America, and was told at the most I could get 10.5 Leopard, but they didn't sell that any more. They gave me the 800 my apple phone number, and I called it. They said they had Leopard, but it took more memory than I had. I asked about a version before Leopard that would fit my memory, but they said they did not sell that any more. HELP! I don't want to buy a new computer!

You don't need to buy a new computer. Memory is very cheap these days. Just add more memory and then install Leopard. You should try to have at least 1 GB RAM. Take a look at the minimum system requirement for OS X 10.5. Does your G4 meet those requirements?

Sounds like you do need more memory then.
