ibook G4 won't start up after update to 10.4

I'm VERY new to macs, so i'll try not to sound like an idiot here... but here's the deal:

I upgraded from 10.2 to 10.4 on a 2004 14" ibook g4. 1.2 gig processor, about 1 gig RAM.

It was fine for a few days after the update, and this morning I went to boot it up and all that came up was the white screen with the apple and the little spinning bar/clock looking thing. I shut it down and tried again, and all it showed was the apple on the white screen and it wouldn't go past that.

HELP PLEASE!

when you upgraded was the copy of 10.4 a genuine apple version or a copy or bit torrent file?
