I shut down 2009 mac during yosemite update, now itunes and appstore will not open. Help?

I shut down 2009 mac during yosemite update, now itunes and appstore will not open. How screwed am I?

The photos, imovie and a couple of other apps still work, yet I cant update the software anymore, appstore will not show me updates, featured apps, anything, it just loads forever. Also I cant even get itunes to bounce, its apathetic to being clicked. Need help.

Have you been making any backups at all to an external device? That could save your day.
