So, I was watching a movie on my MacbookPro from 2009, when it suddenly shut itself off. I waited a couple of seconds and then turned it back on without any issues. The only problem being that it just would not charge anymore. What do you think happened? Did the battery die or do you think it might be something else?

A couple of questions:

1. What Mac OS are you using?

2. How old is the battery inside your Mac? Is it the original one?

Hi!
I think I have Sierra, but I’m not 100% sure. Should definitely be one of the newer ones at least.
Yes, the battery is the original one.

Assuming you purchased the machine back in 2009, the battery is definitely getting old. And especially given that it won't charge anymore. It would be akin to still trying to use a car battery that is 7 years old or so.
