how to open blank dcouments in word and excel

Dear friends
when i click on the word and excel icons in the bar it opens a number of options and then i have to click on a blank documents could you please tell me how to open a blank document or excel sheet directly when i click on their respective icon

There might be something in the Preferences to sort this out but off the top of my head and as I don't have those apps installed, you could try launching Word or Excel and choose a blank doc then just save it to your Desktop.

Then just click that saved blank file to launch Word or Excel, fill the blank page with content but when you're done don't choose
"Save" but instead choose "Save As".

Then quit the app without saving which should maintain the blank doc 'as is' for the next time.

Then just find the file you just created and you can open it and continue working with it if you need too.

Sounds a bit long-winded I know, sorry.
