How do I edit the little house in the Users folder?

Hi all,

I've just purchased a used 24" iMac and the previous owner nor I know how to edit the name he gave the computer when he first set it up. It's the little house icon in the Users folder and I cannot highlight it nor find any way thru system preferences/accounts to change it. Is there a way to edit it without having to do a re-install of the original software?

Here is a fairly good guide to the different ways you can change your shortusername, if your on OSX 10.5 Leopard, you'll need to go into the terminal - for OSX 10.4 or earlier, there is a link to a useful automatic tool on that same site.

I changed my home directory name about a week ago but was able to fix it before anything went wrong. But since sometimes it is necessary I'm glad it can be done.
