My macbook keeps freezing with a screen appearing that says that i must restart by holding down the power button. I hav just purhased the laptop so am quite worried as it was a big investment for myself, please help, thanks for your time.

I'd restart the computer with the system installer disc in the drive, and hold down the "c" key or the "option" key to choose the cd as a start-up disc. Once the computer has started, find Disc Utility in the menus, select the computer hard-drive icon on the left, and hit the "Repair" button. That's a place to start, anyway.
