Help me!

My imac won't sart up. I installed new software for a mouse and when I tried to restart it went to a blank white screen. I've tried holding down various keys at start up; the option key was the only one that did anything. When I held the option key a "hard drive" icon appeared with an upward arrow below it. But it was still stuck on that screen...I don't know macs very well. Any suggestions??

what startup options have you all ready tried ?

Is the Mouses's CD still in the drive ?
