Headphone jack issue

I use a MacBook Air. The headphone jack stopped outputting sound. Here's the odd thing - if I plug in my headphones and use the attached microphone, it works, so the input through the headphone jack is still functioning fine - it's just the output that is having a problem. I've restarted, I've tried going to sleep while headphones are in, I've giggled the headphones around. I've blown air in to make sure it's not just some dust and played with the sound settings. I've tried all of these things with no success. There is some sound through the right headphone, but it's super quiet and not at all how it should be.

Anything else I should try before I take it to the repair shop?

Hello and welcome.

-Which exact model MacBook Air?
-Which version of OS X?
-Have you tried a set of standard headphones without a mic?
-Do the headphones show in  > System Preferences... > Sound > Output?
