Frozen Screen

I have a MacBook Air? It was doing an automatic update and is stuck at this point, " Less then one minute remaining". It's been frozen for 12 hours. I tried everything off the Apple support website, calling them was useless, on hold for 2 hours, finally hung up. I just want to get back to my normal start up menu. Any help is appreciated.

I have no idea on any of these bullets. It just appeared when I turned on the computer yesterday. I only use HP, this is my wife's computer and she knows very little about computers
