dvd players

hello Im new here

my ? is I just got a used macbook pro and it didn't come with a internal dvd drive, so I bought an external driver. so I put in a movie but it doen't want 2 play the movie, but the cd icon appears. so do any of u know what I should do?

Hi there and welcome,

go to the Apple Menu-->About this Mac and then click on more info.

This brings up System Profiler...is the DVD drive listed in there?

I had the same problem a while ago with my old emac, solved by installing the free VLC player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
