My Apple Superdrive froze up with a disc in it, Disk Utility did not recognize it anyway. Chat with support no help, apparently the SuperDrive will not burn DVD's. So bought a Dell burner, same thing, not recognized, looking at answers on Amazon page, others said it' s not Apple compatible. Talked with Apple support about iMovie, i.e. burning movies to DVD, like the old days. Sorry he says, must use 3rd party software and a burner, but search on Amazon doesn't find hardware that is Mac compatible for sure, mfgers claim it does, but users say no.
So the option is to buy burners claiming to be Mac compatible, trying it, and returning it if a no-go. Any help. ideas, recommendations would be appreciated.

Hello,

-Which exact model Mac?
-Which version of OS X/macOS?
-The Dell drive probably isn't compatible, as it needs Mac drivers since it was designed for a Windows PC.
-With the SuperDrive connected, what does it say in  > About This Mac > System Report... > Disc Burning? Does it show as connected in System Information under USB?
