Display quit working! Help!!

The other day, i closed my macbook pro like always, and when i went to start working on it again later, i got nothing.... display just would not come back up. even tried plugging it in to another Monitor to see if it would come up that way, but nope. tried booting holding the Alt key and still nothing.

any other suggestions? I have rather important documents on there that i now cannot retreive!

Sounds like a video card or cable problem. To get files off if you have a another machine with firwire avaialble you could start up in target disc mode with your machine as effectively ext drive of another/ Hope that helps.
