Whenever I shut down, I am getting a window that says:

"Continue the installation?"
"Choose 'Abort' if you wish to cancel the installation."

I have no clue where it is coming from or how to stop this from appearing.

Download the excellent freeware application called AdwareMedic. You can get it from here:

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/52105/adwaremedic

Of course, to use it, you'll need to be using OS 10.7 or later. It will not work with Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.x).
