Hello,

Long-time reader, first time poster. Great site!

My friend just purchased a MacBook Pro that runs El Capitan.

Unfortunatly, he wasn't paying attention and registered/configured the machine using the Apple ID given to him by his work (not his personal).

That said, he is not wanting to use his work ID and would like to config the machine using his personal ID.

What is the process/sequence to remove his work Apple ID from his machine and use his personal? Example: deregister from the MAcbook from his work ID on (http://appleid.apple.com)... then what?

This doesn't seem too complex, but I'm really nervous to not screw anything up. Any help would GREATLY be appreciated!!

Thank you!!

Hello and welcome.

They should be able to simply go to  > System Preferences... > iCloud and sign out. Then, sign in with their personal Apple ID. That Mac should then disappear from their devices list at the link you provided for their work Apple ID, and appear in the devices list in their personal Apple ID.

When they sign out of their Apple ID, it will prompt them to keep or delete their synced calendars, contacts, etc. from the Mac. It will not delete them from iCloud...just the Mac.

Hope that helps.
