Can't restart Finder?

Occasionally, I have to force quit and relaunch Finder. I was surprised today to do cntl-option-esc, and NOT SEE an option to force quit Finder. Never saw that before. I ended up just rebooting. Why is that, and how to you restart Finder if force quit doesn't let you?

Well, OK. You can option-click on the Finder icon in the dock. That allows relaunch of Finder. But still not clear how Finder managed to be missing from Force Quit Applications.

I don't know either, but I too have seen this happen on occasion. It happened recently and the Finder did magically reappear in the Force Quit dialog after a few minutes.
