For whatever reason, when I delete mail messages, they initially go away, but after closing Mail and reopening, they all come back to my inbox. This is driving me crazy, as there are over 4,000 in there now. I don't have this problem on this computer (iMac), but only on my old MacBook (with updated OSX 10.11.6). I have tried various recommended "fixes", such as changing settings in Mailbox Preferences. Below is a message that pops up from time to time, but I don't have a clue what it means. Anybody have any "words of wisdom"?

Hello,

-Does the iMac have OS X 10.11.6 as well?
-What email providers are setup - i.e. Gmail, Hotmail, etc.?
-Is the account in question setup the same on both Macs, and is it POP or IMAP?
-Did you already move the emails to the trash on the iMac, and are trying to do the same on the MBP?
-Have you checked Activity in Mail on the MBP to see if it is still processing?

- No, 10.12.6 (Tried to update the laptop, but it won't take it.)
- E-mail is a flash.net extension (Yahoo). Service provider is AT&T DSL.
- Both are IMAP.
- Sometimes, but not always. Sometimes the laptop emails are new.
- It seems to be Downloading Messages for a long time, as it says there are hundreds of them. I have let it go until it finished, but it didn't seem to matter.

Thanks for your interest.
