Hello all,

We are a k-8 school and cannot log into our server. Since Monday we have been experiencing the following problems.
Users cannot log in.
We can only log into the server itself as root
We can log into workgroup manager, yet we cannot make any changes...everything is "greyed out"
We can't authenticate workgroup manager

What has happened prior to this problem...
We had been experiencing password problems on the network. Users could not log in. We could not change their password in WG Manager...we had to delete and reenter the user.
We recently changed our switches in the building...Though it could be related, does not explain why we can only log into the serve as root...

We are currently running permission repair from the utility disk...Seems to be repairing many issues...will save the log...

Any suggestions on where we should go from here would be appreciated...

Thank you,

Doug

Try throwing the WGM prefs file away...

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.WorkgroupManager.plist

Do you have any 10.4 Servers ?

Another thought...

This might sound sily, but are you sure you do not have WGM running somewhere else logged into that server
For instance if you have it running on the server, and you try to connect via your local Mac, sharing may be greyed out...
