Blue Screen Only after Log-in

I have a G-4 running OS 10.4.8. Every once in a while when I get through the log-in screen, it will come up to a blue screen and the Spotlight will be in the upper right hand corner. But that's it. I run the Disk utility to fix it, and it works for a while, but then it will happen again. Any suggestions?? Thanks!!
