Hello,

When trying to open the Audio MIDI Setup I receive the prompt @Audio MIDI Setup cannot open". I press Ok and then get another dialogue box saying "There was a problem openning Audio MIDI setup.app". Some of the wording in these prompts might differ - I am just writing from memory.

Does anyone know what this means and how I can solve it? I do not have the original disc for my OSX.

Hello and welcome.

It could be a corrupted preferences file.

Do you have a current Time Machine or other backup of your data?
-Do you have any external audio devices or third-party audio applications/utilities installed?
-macOS Sierra didn't come on disc. ;)

You could try deleting the preference file located here:
-In Finder, hold the Option key and click Go > Library in the menu bar
-Open the Preferences folder
-Drag the file com.apple.audio.AudioMIDISetup.plist to the Trash
-Restart your Mac and see if it opens properly

DO NOT delete any other files in your hidden Library folder, as you can render your Mac inoperable.

Let us know if that works for you,

C
