Apple ID is messing me around. HELP!

When I first got this Mac I set up an Apple ID with my then email address.

I have changed my email address but my Mac won't recognise this change.

How can I completely erase my initial email and use my new address for my Apple ID?

I cannot download OSX Maverick until I make this change.

Help.

Passwords and email addresses can be awkward to change sometimes.

Personally feel it might be quicker and less hassle to contact Apple.
