another kernel panic situation

First kernal panic occured last March. I've had my iMAC to two different apple repair services, then tried to erase and reinstall but another kernel panic screen popped up before I could finish the job and managed to screw up the system where I couldn't access anything. I went Apple+Option+O+F restart to get Tiger CD inserted, then another restart with Apple+C to get it to start up. But before I can finish the erase and reinstall.....you get it....another kernal panic locks up the computer.

I got an interesting screen display this last time that includes info about system failure, latest crash info, proceeding back via exception chain, kernal version is Darwin 8.6.0 and root:xnu-792.6.70.obj~1/RELEASE_PPC (whatever that means) and then tells me its waiting for remote debugger connection.

Hey, I'm an old lady. This stuff is over my head. I need help.
