SOLVED Add DVD player

I have a mini Mac with os catalina fully updated. I tried to add an external DVD player compatable with Catalina but would not work. The icon appears but the display is black. any suggestions?

the mini mac is late 2012 with os catalina 10.15.4 The DVD unit is VisionTech compatible with most mac hardware. with USB. am I missing the driver for this unit?

/the Icon for the DVD player is loaded in the bottom bar. when I open it only a blank black display window appears. when loaded with a commercial DVD nothing happens. Mini Mac late 2012 with latest version of OS Catalina 10.15.4

It could be a driver issue. I have never heard of VisionTech...do you have a specific model or a link to where you purchased it?
