Invalid senders address on my iPad air 2

Recently I tried to send an email from my iPad but I can't because my iPad says that my senders address is invalid so I now can't send emails
My senders address is valid as I have sent emails to the iPad which has a slightly different address to my iMac
Are you able to tel me how to correct this.

-Do you use iCloud to sync your contacts with your iMac and iCloud?

Unbeknows to when my iPad was set up they didn't complete the out going mail section.
All is well now
