evening!

This is one of those “just want to do it for my own sanity” things..

Ive got a 2010 iMac I’m trying to update initially I couldn’t access the apple store to download the update so the genius folk advised I download manually with their link, create a bootable disk and format my HD.

Having done so, when I try to reinstall, it gets about 2 mins in and restarts, with an error message and I’m kind of stuck in a boot cycle of recovery mode.

I’ve tried;

Resetting everything
Safe mode
Installing to an external HD
Reformatting HD/repair etc.
online recovery
Resetting RAM

Still getting restarts and a constant repair mode cycle.

Anyone have any clues as to how I can get this thing working? It worked perfectly fine prior to the attempted update.

Many thanks

Hello and welcome.
  • Which version of OS X/macOS was it running?
  • Which version of OS X/macOS are you trying to install?
  • How much free space is left on the drive?
  • Do you have any third-party RAM upgrades installed?
  • Can you upload a photo of where it is getting stuck?

Hey!

Sorry I should have come back to this!

I took it to the store, genius tried to install everything from its original OS to high sierra, condemned it, but I didn’t give up!

Turns out my 3rd party ram was the problem, pulled it, reinstalled High Sierra, patched in Catalina and we’re winning.
