Is there a provision in this operating system MAIL program to create notes? It was present automatically through the previous Mail program but I cannot find it in this current version.
Thank you,

Hello and welcome.

Yes, 10.9.4 Mavericks has the notes function. It has been moved out of Mail and into a separate app called Notes in your Applications folder. When you open the Notes app and create a note it is stored there and not in Mail, but does sync via iCloud with any Mac or iOS device that uses the same email address/Apple ID.

Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns about the Notes/Mail functionality.

Is there a way to place the icon for that program into my header so that it will open without having to go to applications each time?
Thank you,
Vlad

Yes, two ways:

1. Open the Notes app. It will show in the Dock on the right-hand side near the Trash can icon. Click and hold or right-click/Option-click on the Notes icon in the Dock, then select Keep in Dock from the Options menu that pops up.
2. Open your Applications folder, find the Notes app icon, click and hold on it, then drag it to the Dock. Navigate to where you want to put it on the Dock while still holding the button down and the two icons will slightly spread apart where you have dragged it to, then release. It should then stay in the Dock.
