Safari crashing a lot for the last days

Safari almost crashing 20 times on some days, only started for the last week i have mac os x 10.4.11 intel core macbook pro running: safari 3.0.4

Is it only Safari that is crashing or have you only really put Safari through its paces? It seems like a memory issue to me - have you added any more memory?

I also keep getting this problem. I recently bought a mini-mac, I am running Leopard, and all this week Safari keeps telling me I am not conected to internet. However my router shows conection is ok, and if I go through diagnostics it says internet ok. When message comes up , if I hit the back button it gos straight back to previous web page. So this shows I am on the net. Did you manage to sought it out?

Rowbo, yours is likely a cache issue, reset safari from the menu - click on the word Safari when it is loaded from the top left and then click on reset safari.

It is also worth downloading another browser such as firefox to see if you get the same error in that.

Have you tried repairing permissions? Resetting Safari? Deleting the preference list file for Safari?

Download Firefox from here:

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Then install it (do you know how to install on a Mac? Just double click the program and a virtual drive will appear, drag the program into your applications folder, and once transferred, you can drag the virtual drive icon on your desktop to the trash to eject it)

Once installed into applications, you can drag and drop it from applications onto your dock and this will create a shortcut on the dock for it for easier access. Then just use like you would Safari

Shortly after I got my mac, safari was crashing on me almost constantly. I called apple and they had me set up with mozilla (foxfire) and I haven't had a problem going through foxfire, since. I seldom use safari any longer.

So, you might want to try to run Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility). Open the application, select the mounted volume for your hard drive and click "repair disk permissions."

Deleting your plist file
Go to your user Library > Preferences > com.apple.Safari.plist
That's the plist file to trash. That will not lose your favorites. Your bookmarks are kept in your user Library > Safari. It's in that folder.

Nothing is perfect. It is probably crashing with a program you have installed recently - it is, IMHO, a memory related problem. Does any other program crash?

If not, then obviously the installation has become corrupt.

Try firefox as I have suggested - it has far more add ons than Safari anyway.

i recently reinstalled msn, but i don't use it (i use adium) i will delet msn and see if this helps,
and i don't like firefox, i think it's pretty stupid for such a expensive computer that it doesn't work with it own software, and that you should use a 3rd party browser,

I also notice a few weeks ago while I was doing some work on Powerpoint that the whole system was crashing. BTW it's a "copy" of Powerpoint

I did add some memory onto the system recently so that I could install creative suite. I've also deleted a lot of large files off the hard drive.

I'm also using Firefox with no problems, but I guess I am a little worried if I try to do something important in the future that these problems will continue and would like it just to get back to how it was.

I also noted a mention about msn. I wasn't using it until quite recently.

A lot of info here, but if anyone else recognises the problems and can give me some reassurances, I would be very grateful.

I did add some memory onto the system recently so that I could install creative suite. I've also deleted a lot of large files off the hard drive.

I'm also using Firefox with no problems, but I guess I am a little worried if I try to do something important in the future that these problems will continue and would like it just to get back to how it was.

I also noted a mention about msn. I wasn't using it until quite recently.

A lot of info here, but if anyone else recognises the problems and can give me some reassurances, I would be very grateful.

Tried all this and no joy. I tried to find safari.phist and it didn't exist. Any other suggestions please?
