Airport Error. Can't connect to selected network.

I just got my Mac Book Pro for Christmas and it loaded up the network screen when you first start but when I go to connect to my internet it comes up with a network error?

Any advice on how to get it connected?

Also, If i say my computer is not connected to the Internet can I still connect it later?

Open your System preferences > Network. You might need to configure your network settings.
