unable to load software

I have inherited a G4 and cannot seem to load any software onto it (including new system software) The machine just spits the disks out. The cd drive seems to be working as it plays music cd's etc. Does anyone have a bright ideas ?

Hi Roy and welcome
Have you tried to insert the system software disk the restart without closing the drive tray(that will close during the restart phase). Then access the disk utility and repair permissions from there then restart rom the Mac HD to see if that makes any difference
