I keep getting a "there is no room" on this disk for Time Machine.
The disk is a 5T formatted APFS. GUID Partition Map. It was/is empty.
I got the same issue with a 3T.
What is the issue?

IMac 27 w/ OS 11.6.5, 48G memory.

When you formatted the drive, with Disk Utility I assume, did you click on “Erase” or “Partition”? If you chose the latter, that was probably the problem. You must select the topmost level (i.e., the drive itself) and choose Erase to totally erase the drive. And you a right to select APFS as the format.

If you did exactly as listed, then there must be some other issue, maybe with macOS, that’s causing the problem.

Hi, my time machine was working well under my old High Sierra 2012 iMac, but now I have changed to a M1 iMac with Monterey I got the same message when I plugged it in. Sandy
