SystemVersion.plist crash!

I was trying (again) to make my dvd player region free, I have now decided to stop as it has crashed my comp twice. I went to the SystemVersion.plist file and made it 10.4.9 instead of 10.5.8 and all the programs crashed. I restarted the computer and got a loop of light blue screen-dark blue screen. Last time this happened I just took out the drive, copied it and reinstalled os x not realizing that it was this that did it. Please is there any way for me to get mac back with out reinstalling. Oh and I do have a windows partition installed that still works! Thank you.

Problem solved, I put in the install cd and found the "Archive and Install" option and am now posting this on my mac

is not in OS X, its in the firmware on the drive controller;-(

It a little IC card attached to the DVD Drive, very specialised hacking.

Well it doesn't matter anyway (i've learned my lesson about dabbling in things I don't know about) but thanks anyway
