I have a Power Mac G4 FW 800 on which I had OS 10.5 installed for a while. I have now re-installed 10.4 again because I need to run some stuff in Classic (OS 9.2.1) which should run. However, the mac will not let me install OS 9. I think that having 10.5 has changed the firmware perhaps. I just need to know what I can do to get OS 9 back on my mac. Many thanks.

Power Mac G4 Firewire 800, I GHz (single), running OS 10.4.11. 2 gig RAM.

Intel iMac 1.85 GHz dual, running OS 10.5.2. 2 gig RAM.

I cannot boot from the OS 9 CD, I believe the G4 FW 800 will not do that. I am trying or re-install OS 9.2 in order to run some old software – the machine had been running OS 10.5 for a while, it is now running 10.4.11. The error messages tell me that there is now no Classic (or OS 9) System folder, therefore the computer will not accept OS 9 . I do not have the full retail version of 10.4 to load, which is, as far as I can tell is what I need. Is there a way round this do you think?
