I have a macbook with 10.4.11 and I have never really found the need to update, but being further and further out of date I would like to update to a newer OS X. I am not sure if I can skip 10.5 and go right to 10.6 or not, but I just can't seem to find anywhere that I can download any updates besides the new 10.8 mountain lion.

That is correct, its very difficult to get a retail version of older versions of OSX.

Contact a 3rd Party, Apple Service Centre near you.

I upgraded my iMac C2D from Tiger ~> Snow Leopard without any issues ...

Can I upgrade from tiger to leopard

Need to download Snow Leopard

There are loads of useful info & links etc found at the above links.. You can leap frog Leopard altogether if you can track down a Snow Leopard Disc and your MacBook meets all the System Requirements ...

I had the same problem but someone told me to call the main Apple sales line and they sold me the Snow Leopard OSX for just £14 (I am in the UK) even though I could not find it anywhere on their website.
