Folks,
The internal hard drive of my G5 1.83Ghz dual-processor Mac has gone south. When attempting to boot I get video, spinning clock icon, some HD access sounds but it never gets anywhere. Sometimes if I let it sit long enough it will crank its fans up to jet engine speed but eventually I simply have to pull the power plug.
My plan is to purchase a replacement hard drive, install it and place OS/X on it and then install the old/failed HD as a secondary internal and try to get to the data on the drive.
Sadly, I was stupid enough to not have backed up data for a VERY long time. But first things first, I need a working system.
Can anyone tell me what sort of hard drive I need to get? I want to avoid the Mac store if I possibly can.
Thanks,
Steven
