My desktop icons disappeared after using MacKeeper

I made the mistake of paying for and downloading MacKeeper on my iMac to clean it up. The program did its thing, then I rebooted, logged into my account, and found that all of the icons on my desktop had disappeared. Then I rebooted again, logged in using my kids' account, and that one was fine, with all icons, but it had none of my work files, of course, because those are in my own account. Any suggestions? Thanks a lot for any help. Gus

Make sure you do all the steps to completely get rid of it. If you can't do it via your account, you should then be able to do it via your kids' account.

Thanks much for your response, honestone. I did exactly as instructed in that link to rid my Mac of the MacKeeper. Unfortunately, it made no difference at all. I still have no icons - and no top or bottom ribbon - when logging into my account.
