Macbook no disc space

I have a macbook mac os x version 10.5.4

I have run out of space on my disk. When I go to delete photo's in my iphoto (which is where most of the space is taken up) the deleted photo's do not seem to go into the trash yet disappear from the iphoto library. It also doesn't make any more space on my disc. I therefore assume I'm obviously not deleting them correctly. (I have been deleting them by selecting photo's & moving them to trash)

any suggestions???

Hi there,

when in iPhoto control click on the trash and empty trash...then in the Finder empty trash...
