Key Dead After Cleaning

After cleaning my keyboard with a very slightly damp cloth, as I usually do, the 'e' key stopped working.
I took the cover off and blasted it with air, but to no avail.
I started to panic when I realized I needed this character to type my pw when logging-in.
I was able to use an older wired one and disabled the pw.

Any ideas on what could be wrong?
The key is not recognized in the 'system preferences' box.

Hello,

It sounds like the e key may have failed, either due to the cleaning or a coincidence. Other than testing it as you have, there isn't much additional troubleshooting that can be done. It will probably require a replacement of the keyboard.

Sorry...wish I had a better answer.

often moisture from cleaning will 'conduct' or 'insulate' and it could take some time to evaporate out, so if it happens place in a warm sunny spot or nice hot day, BUT NEVER an oven, and give it a day or two. regards, Sandy
